TOP SHELF FOOTBALL LEAGUE – INITIAL DRAFT RULES

This will be a 28 team league, which will have a snake draft for initial disbursement. Players will be distributed as follows:

1) As we get commitments from owners, you will be assigned a number depending on when you joined the league (1-28)

2) Once we get to 28 owners, within 24 hours we will have a Random Number Generator randomly generate a draft order; at least 1 other owner will be on a Zoom call with me, and we will generate the order and share with the league.

3) The following day we will commence with the draft, which will initially consist of 10 rounds, proceeding in a snake order. In those 10 rounds, you will select 9 players and 1 NFL franchise (what round you choose to select the NFL franchise is totally up to you). At the completion of that 10 round draft, you will have your team name and 9 players.

4) After the 10^th round is complete, the players from that actual team that haven’t yet been selected in the draft will be added to your roster.

5) Within 24 hours, you will give me a list of the 42 players you intend to keep, with the remaining players being cut and returned to the Free Agent pool.

6) In reverse order of the initial draft, there will then be a 10 round Free Agent draft, from the pool of players returned, as well as the 4 teams that weren’t selected.

7) As soon as possible after the draft order has been selected, we will also commence with a 5 round rookie draft, with the goal being to finish that draft prior to the season starting, or shortly thereafter.

8) The rookie draft will be in reverse order of the Free agent draft for the first two rounds (IE, the team that gets the top pick in the FA draft will select last in the rookie draft for first 2 rounds, while the team that picks last in the FA draft will select first in the first 2 rounds of the rookie draft). After those first two rounds, the rookie draft will snake, just as it had in the Free Agent draft.

9) Teams will be put into divisions/conferences that most closely resemble the NFL this first season. One item that will be voted on is whether to re-align teams based on the owner’s geography; franchise names after this first season can be changed/traded since there won’t be any future consideration given to NFL team names when conducting the draft.
